And well done to all those taking part in our first ever tots and toddlers race – especially the cow!!!
We’ll let you know as soon as we can how much we have raised for this year’s chosen charity – Lilleshall Pre-School and other good causes.
Once again, thanks you all for helping or taking part and we look forward to welcoming you to the Lilleshall Monumental 2017!!
Arguably Shropshire’s most scenic multi-terrain 10K, this chip timed race which is set in a rural village just outside Newport is now in its 7th year. The course is mainly off road, and with the kind permission of private landowners, it takes in woodland and tracks, passing historic limekilns where there is still evidence of the former canal that once served the village. Mixed scenery includes bridges across ponds enjoying views of nesting birdlife, along with one or two playful hills including the iconic Lilleshall Hill itself (132m), which on a clear day boasts panoramic views of the Welsh mountains and closer to home, the marvellous ruins of Lilleshall Abbey. Part of the run meanders through the pretty village of Lilleshall, literally passing the door of the beautiful eleventh century church keeping you to time with its chiming bells.
The course is well marshalled and sells itself as extremely friendly with a village fete atmosphere. There is something for all family members who fancy giving running a go with the very popular fun run for all ages starting at 10.15. The cricket clubhouse where the race starts and finishes has a bar available along with a BBQ and cake stall to satisfy the hungers of all.
All 10k participants will receive a memento with specific prizes awarded to the first three men and women and age category prizes to also include first under aged 20, male and female. A goody bag is available to all fun run participants with specific awards being given to the first child back for year groups 1-10.
The race has raised almost £10,000 .00 for local causes in Lilleshall and this year the benefactor is the local pre-school. Our first ‘tots and toddler race'(pre-school children) is planned for the day.
