Pontesbury Fell Race
The Pontesbury Fell Race also took place recently in hot conditions and three Newport runners travelled to run the race from Mary Webb School in Pontesbury and run up Earls Hill to pass the trig point before descending sharply to the right almost to the base of the hill.
The racers then had to climb half way up again before crossing the stile and dropping down quickly through the trees to return to the field by the school and the finish.
John Taylor ran strongly to be 24th in 26mins 19sec, with Sandy Mackenzie also having a good race to be 34th in 27m 28s.
Mark Deighton found the heat difficult, but kept going to be 60th in 30m 17s.
