Caradoc Classic Fell Race

Caradoc Classic

This race was supposed to be the start of the Summer Fell Series, but the weather was atrocious, with persistent rain, low cloud and a cool wind.

This didn’t seem to put off around a hundred brave souls who climbed out of Church Stretton to the summit of the Caradoc before turning and throwing themselves down the side of the hill to the track at the base and returning to the edge of Church Stretton.

Tom O’Boyle showed that his fitness is approaching his peak by finishing well up the field of experienced fell runners in 20th place in 29m 38s. In 25th place was Noel Hogan in 29:46 with John Taylor hot on his heels in 27th place just three seconds later.

Sandy Mackenzie wasn’t far adrift in 40th place in 31:27 with Andrew Coles 62nd in 34:59 and Newport’s only lady representative on the night, Helen Hadebe, 94th in 42:37.
